Some Pinspiring Art

As I have mentioned before, I get together with a friend and her children every couple weeks.  We have some religion and some art.  After a brief hiatus over the holiday, we got together again.  Inspired by this art project found on Pinterest:

our group created some interesting art.

(Sorry, I didn't know how to rotate the picture.  I tried everything! What an amateur I am!)

 (Again, amateur!)
This is a really versatile art project for all ages.  It also encourages creativity.  Well, I suppose all art projects do that.

Looney Update

Did you think I gave up on my Looney recipe challenge?  Nah, I just took awhile to post.  So, I've been busy in the kitchen.  Here are the recent recipes I've made.
By the way, all of the Looneyspoons recipes have quirky names.  Take for example the Zucchini loaf bread : "Isn't she Loafly?"  Every time I read that title I have Stevie Wonder stuck in my head!

"Isn't She Loafly?"  Chocolate, chocolate-chip Zucchini loaf:

"The Sound of Muesli" A high-fiber breakfast blend of oats, yogurt and fresh fruit.  So it's the dead of winter and I am not buying expensive out of season fruit.  I instead opted for frozen.  I will try this again in the summer for sure.  It was delicious.

"Roastess with the Mostest" Lemon and Herb roasted whole chicken:  This one was so good.  A keeper.

"Britney's Spears" Roasted asparagus with balsamic vinegar and Parmesan cheese:

"Don't Be Afraid of the Dark Fudge" Creamy, foolproof chocolate and peanut-butter fudge:
Warning: Truly addicting.

And a few I forgot to take pictures of since my mouth was just too impatient to wait for a photo shoot.

-Tzatziki Sauce; which was really really good. It went with:
- "Acropolos Sandwich" Lemon-Oregano chicken in a whole grain-pita with veggies and  tzatziki sauce
and
-"Dilly Beloved" Baked chicken breasts with maple, mustard, lemon and dill.

So I'm off to write a grocery list for this weeks recipes for those "odd" ingredients.  They're really not that odd.  I'm just expanding my repertoire of ingredients.

Mismatched Matching Furniture

Here is another furniture makeover.  They started out totally different. I don't have a before picture for the side table but picture this: circa 1971, old ugly brown, one drawer handle, horizontal, the other, vertical.  Not a pretty picture.  The chest of drawers is from Ikea.  The smallest dresser ever made, by the way.

Before:

                                                                           After:

So how to make them match?

Prime and paint them the same colour, and add matching drawer handles.

I found it to be a lot of work (even if it was my dear husband who primed and painted) but it was well worth it in the end.

Going Looney

It begins.  I've made seven recipes so far this year and it's only the 5th!  I can't help myself.  All the recipes from "The Looneyspoons Collection" recipe book look so good.

I found my new favourite pizza crust recipe.  It has goodness spread throughout with it's whole wheat flour and ground flax. It also stays put after you roll it out, unlike other crusts that spring back, refusing to be laid out.

Moist cinnamon apple muffins anyone?

This next meal brought to you by the colour orange.  Boston pizza can't fool me anymore.  I now know what boneless chicken wings really are!  Chicken thighs cut in half and folded to resemble chicken wings, that's what (pictured top left on the plate).  Yam fries and glazed carrots also grace the plate.

I also tried the pizza sauce recipe too.  I didn't really taste a difference when on the pizza.  My taste buds could have been preoccupied by the crust though.  And lastly this week I tried the Roasted Vegetable Lasagna.  Another first this week; besides buying apricot jam for the glazed carrots, I also bought Portabello mushrooms.  My cart never felt so fancy leaving the grocery store.  The lasagna was a lot of work but what lasagna isn't?

Well that's it for now.  I will be trying some more yummy recipes.  I'll keep you posted.

Blessings,

Christina
